What's Up Wednesday

I've seen these posts around for a while and I'm finally deciding to join in the fun! They're so cute, and I love to bop around and see what everyone is up to! Jaime Morrow and Erin L. Funk started this weekly blog hop to help encourage others on their writing journey. Thanks, ladies!

I just started The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I haven't gotten too far into it, but I loved the opening! I have also been listening to a series of books by Elizabeth Peters called the Amelia Peabody series about this woman and her family's adventures in Egypt in the late 1800's, early 1900's. I LOVE this series, the characters are fun, and it has tons of great mysteries and yes, LOVE STORIES. Sigh.

I just finished revising a funny YA contemporary newly retitled THIS THING CALLED LIFE (aka Cafe Pizza). I tried querying its earlier version a couple years ago without success, but I still loved the story, and after taking time off I realized what it needed. I'm hoping these new plot changes will work!

I'm also working on two other stories, a YA Sci Fi and a YA Steampunk, that I'm hoping to have finished soon. The nice thing about having multiple WIPs is that I can bounce back and forth between them when I get stumped!

It's weird to say this, but failure inspires me. Whenever I get a rejection or hear about someone else's, I get PUMPED, like *shakes fist* I'll show them they can't reject ME. And it's motivating! It makes me want to try harder to prove myself.

My son turned four today. And he loves pink and cats, and he decided he wanted a Unikitty birthday, so I'm waiting for the cake to cool so that I can (hopefully) cut off the ends into triangle shapes, stick 'em on top  of the rest of the cake along with an ice cream cone, ice it, and have the thing come out looking like Unikitty. *crosses fingers*

What about you? Anything new and exciting lately? What are you working on?

Happy birthday to your little one :D

Good luck with querying. I hope you get the good news this time. And here's to the new ideas going really well, too.

Have a fantastic week!

The Raven Boys is so good! Definitely one of my top fav YA series. And Amelia Peabody! I always had a crush on Ramses as a kid. =)Happy Birthday to your son!

A Unikitty cake would be awesome! I think your idea for it sounds great. It'll turn out. :-)

I'm in a similar boat as you are with the WiP that I'm currently reworking. I've been at this off and on for 3 years now, and have also queried in and shelved it briefly. It's great picking it up again with new ideas to fix it! I also tend to work on multiple projects at once, so I totally agree with you on that, too. Best to apply your creative energy to something rather than nothing when you're stumped, right?

Have a wonderful week, Cortney! I'm glad you decided to join us. :-)

I love Maggie Stiefvater's books. I'm checking out the Raven boys now. I love that feeling of knowing what to do to work on a story. It's inspiring.

I try and bounce backwards and forwards between multiple WIP's but it doesn't always work for me.

Have a great week.

Happy birthday to your son! I have to confess that I asked my son what Unikitty was and he explained that its a character from the Lego movie. Honestly, I live under a rock! What a cute idea for a birthday cake!

I'm one of those writers that has to focus on a single project at a time, so I'm jealous that you can work on multiple projects. Good luck with writing this week!

LOVE the "What's Up Wednesday" idea. Super cute and I love what's going on with you! Are you going to Storymakers this year? I hope to see you!

Hi, Cortney, and happy birthday to your son! I don't know that I can handle more than one WIP at a time. Once I get writing that story, I want to see it through to the end without distraction. Other WIPs would slow me down. Mind you, those Shiny New Ideas can be bothersome when you're trying to concentrate... :)

I wish you the very best with your WIPs this week!

By the way, have you got around to watching Doctor Who yet? :)

How did the Unikitty cake come out? I'm a bit jealous of that 'inspiration from failure' thing, may need to see if I can cultivate it. I just got a rejection from Strange Horizons. And I think I like Cafe Pizza better as a title than 'This thing called life' ;)

Hi, Cortney! You're right that failure can be inspirational. It's motivation to keep at it until you get the answers you want and to say, "Yea? Well, I'll show you!"

Love your idea for a unikitty cake! It sounds like it'll work. Good luck!!

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
